ABOUT

Matthew Spencer is an illustrator based in Santa Rosa, California.

Born and raised in Texas, he eventually left Texas for California, where he worked and lived in Los Angeles, California, doing a variety of odd jobs in audio production, editorial illustration, and eventually children’s illustration. Deciding to move on, he headed for the Midwest to go to school at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design.

Graduating from there, he moved back to California and settled up in the North Bay with his folks. Currently working on comics under the name Mathuin, he has exhibited across the Bay Area at zine fests and galleries.

At the moment, he is settling in the North Bay area and currently looking for work in his profession.

• 2022 MIAD Undergraduate Thesis for BFA in Illustration.

• Written, Illustrated and Designed Graphic Novel spanning 68 pages

• Released digital and print version. First print run out of print.

• Project lasted between December 2021 to February 2022.

• Illustrated a Children’s Book designed for Infants and Toddlers

• Worked in tandem with the writer, Chris Jennings, into drafting

producing and illustrating a book with watercolor and ink.

Skills

  • Software Proficiency includes Adobe Creative Cloud (Premiere, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Animator), Blender, Unity, Microsoft Office Suite, Pro Tools and Audacity.

  • Knowledgeable in Maya and Unreal Engine, Worked with Programming Languages such as C+++, Familiar with Clip Studio Pro.

  • Proficient in Traditional Media such as Watercolor, Gouache, and Ink. Versed in Traditional Animation, plus Ink and Paint. Worked with Risography, Collage and Bookbinding.

  • Studied Script-writing at Upright Citizens Brigade in Los Angeles, CA. Prior experience in film-making.
